No shocks at parents’ evening

As part of my top tips for Secondary teachers converting to Primary teaching.

Tip #2 is no shocks at parents’ evening

Have early discussions with parents about any concerns at all, both positive and negative; social and academic.  The longer any issues are left, the bigger they become, the more anxious all parties get about discussing them and the greater the impact on the children.

Have brave conversations, and have them sooner, rather than later.

Where parents do not collect their children after school, pick up the phone and speak to them.
