Use Positive Behaviour Management

As part of my top tips for Secondary teachers converting to Primary teaching.

Tip #4 is to use positive behaviour management

  • Always use 2 positives before any negative comments
  • Make good use of proximity praise
  • Children love stickers as rewards – start the day with a sheet of 30 and aim to give them all out by the end of the day
  • Give rewards, rather than punishments / taking time / other things away – better to give extra playtime than to take minutes away from playtime
  • Never use time off subjects as a punishment – e.g. “You’re missing PE because of that”
